A philosophy professor for 15 years, I recently joined the Peace Corps, serving 2 years as a volunteer at Sichuan Normal University in Chengdu. There I held a philosophical discussion group with my Chinese undergraduates, prompting my forthcoming book Socrates in Sichuan: Chinese Students Search for Truth, Justice and the Chinese Way (Potomac Books). I will soon return to China to pursue my passion for that amazing land in more than a merely academic sense. That is, to riff off the old Hair Club commercial, I am not only a blogger for Chinese Love Match, but a client as well!

I spent 20 years punching a time clock... then decided there had to be another way.
Right now I'm sitting in a comfortable chair on a beautiful beach. There's a sweet, soft breeze in the air. In front of me, on the clear blue water, a boat drifts by. Maybe I'll go snorkeling this afternoon, or work on my tan. This is my kind of tropical paradise... cheap and unspoiled!

Linda Chen is a college teacher in southwest China. Her love for English language was ignited at 12 reading Gone with the Wind. She was fascinated by the heroine Scarlett O’Hara who was independent, perseverant and lovely. Being capable of reading original English novel became her long-time pursuit. Since language is a carrier for thoughts and culture, language learning is inseparable from cross-cultural communication. Linda cherishes the opportunity CLM offers for sharing thoughts on a cross-cultural basis.

Justin Mitchell is a cranky, aging American journalist from the People’s Republic of Boulder, Colorado and editor for The Global Times an English language newspaper in Beijing. He has previously done “PR for the PRC” at China Daily in Beijing and Shenzhen Daily and worked for the free press in Hong Kong, including The Standard and Voice of America. He’s been in China about 6 years His personal blogs, Shenzhen Zen and Son of Shenzhen Zen focus on his admittedly increased navel gazing and ignorance of what goes on in China, particularly among Chinese women and clueless expats like himself. “The usual hijinks, cultural misunderstandings, hilarity and mishaps ensue..." so expect a little irreverence for CLM Magazine.
